Welcome to the world of Formula 1 air racing. Pylon air racing is the world's most exciting and high stakes motorsport. Pilots race their high performance custom built aircraft around a closed course at speeds approaching 300 mph. Couple this with the fact that the airplanes are seldom more than 100 feet above the ground and you can see there is no margin for error.Air races are held throughout the country each year with the premier event being the National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada. Although course lengths vary, Reno is typical with pylons set 35' to 75' above the ground marking a 3.18 mile oval course. Race duration is between 8 and 10 laps."Zarrina" is race #77, a modified Cassutt aircraft built to go around the pylons at incredible speeds. This site details the airplane, it's crew and the sport of air racing. |
